Why now: Sunrise 2027
GS1 has set the end of 2027 for points of sale worldwide to read 2D codes alongside the usual linear barcode.
- If you export or sell to an international chain, the deadline comes from your buyer, not from us.
- If you only sell at home, the deadline does not bind you yet — but the QR code is already the only direct channel to the shopper that fits on your packaging.
You do not remove your barcode
During the transition both go on the same pack: the linear one still goes through the till, and the Digital Link QR adds the rest. This generator does not replace your EAN or UPC.
Where your prefix comes from
Your prefix comes from the GS1 organisation in your country; in Venezuela, GS1 Venezuela. If you do not have yours yet, we guide you through getting it.
- If you already have your GTINs, you can start right now: type one above and take the code.
- If you do not, this generator still lets you try — the code works and expires after 30 days.
- To print on packaging that goes on sale, the GTIN has to be genuinely yours: we publish only under accredited prefixes.
What a GS1 Digital Link is
GS1 defines the barcodes of world trade. Digital Link is its standard for writing that same identifier as a web address, so any phone can read it without a special app.
